The U.S. Government says Conrad Black’s bid for bail pending his appeal should be denied because his application is an “attempt to recast the actual trial evidence.”
In a 21-page filing, Patrick Fitzgerald, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, urged the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, to reject Lord Black’s request for bail, saying that even though the U.S. Supreme Court has thrown his convictions into question, the former media baron’s three convictions on mail and wire fraud and one count of obstruction of justice would not be affected.
