Unification Church plans to sell Washington Times

Executives at The Washington Times are negotiating to sell the newspaper, which was founded in 1982 and funded by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church. Nicholas Chiaia, a member of the newspaper's two-person board of directors, confirms the Times is on the market. In a statement, he says executives recently entered into discussions with "a number of parties interested in either purchasing or partnering with the Washington Times." Last week, Publisher Jonathan Slevin left the newspaper, saying the board had been playing an "intrusive role" in day-to-day affairs. The Times has cut more than 40 percent of its staff this year.
